What is surround sound?
Surround sound is the best part of HDTV with enveloping sound from all directions in the room. Movies, music, games and TV shows come alive with a home theater system. How would I benefit from upgrading to surround sound?
Since the developers of HDTV intended for you to enjoy a better picture and better sound, they include a 5.1 audio signal with most of your HD content. This audio signal can?t be played properly if you are using the built-in speakers of your television so what you are hearing is a downgraded version of the high quality sound that you were intended to hear.
Can I get great sound from non-HD channels?
Yes, Yamaha receivers include technologies like Dolby Pro-Logic IIx Movie that is designed to take a regular audio track and make it sound like surround sound.
What else can I use my home theater system for?
Besides TV, Movies, and gaming, home theater systems can be used for all sorts of audio playback. You can use new media devices like iPods and camcorders. And since your computer can be connected to the home theater systems, you can enjoy great sound from your entire library of music and video files...even your game console!
