Dear Yamaha Loudspeaker Customer:
Yamaha has recently reviewed two reports that Yamaha In-Wall Loudspeakers
have fallen from the ceilings on which they were mounted. Yamaha has learned
that its contractor mistakenly used mounting clamps made with a weaker
plastic than Yamaha had specified. If a speaker were to fall, a person
could be injured or property damaged. No injuries have been reported to
date.
Yamaha believes that all NS-IW660 speakers purchased
after January 1, 2006 are probably experiencing this condition. Consequently,
Yamaha is implementing a product safety recall. We are contacting you
at this time, because our records indicate that you are a purchaser of
this model.
• If you installed the speakers yourself, disconnect all electric
power to your sound system, and then dismount the speakers. (For any questions
regarding removal, call the 800 number given below.) If
you use a ladder to reach the loudspeakers, be sure to observe all the
safety precautions on that ladder. After
removing the loudspeakers, please call 800-609-2624 for instructions on
how to return the speakers and obtain replacements at no charge. Do
not re-install these loudspeakers.
A home-use corkscrew when turned slightly
into a hole on the perimeter of the grille is a helpful tool for
removing the grille.
• If your speakers were professionally installed, please call 800-609-2624
for instructions on how to have the speakers removed and the speakers
returned and replaced as necessary, all at no charge. Until
they are removed, keep people and property away from the area beneath
the loudspeakers.
Yamaha regrets that this problem has occurred,
and hopes that together we can resolve it satisfactorily.
Sincerely,
Thomas H. Graham
