Daniel Lin

Biography

Taiwanese-Canadian pianist Daniel Lin currently serves as Associate Professor of Music at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Indiana. Previously, he was a visiting faculty member at the University of Evansville.

Dr. Lin's performances have been featured in a variety of venues in the USA and abroad. He was a finalist in several international competitions, including the Pacific International Competition (Vancouver, Canada) as well as the Chinese International Piano Competition (New York City). Additional competition highlights include top prizes at the Bosendorfer Concerto Competition and the Canadian Music Competition. In 2015, he was a guest soloist in the Max Reger Festival hosted jointly by the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and the Max Reger Foundation of the Americas. His performance of Variations and Fugue on a Theme of J.S. Bach, Op. 81 received a stellar review by the American Guild of Organists. He had also appeared as a soloist with the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra after winning the PianoTexas International Academy and Festival Concerto Competition. Most recently, he was awarded third prize at the George Gershwin International Music competition. Other achievements include winning the grand prize at the Ruthmere Beardsley Piano Competition in Elkhart, Indiana, and top prizes at the World Piano Teachers Association International Piano Competition Singapore, the London Classical Music Competition and the International Clara Schumann Competition.

As an active member of the Indiana Music Teachers Association, Lin serves on the Board of Directors as the coordinator of Hoosier Auditions, and has given lectures and workshops within the US and internationally, including the Music Teachers National Association Conference, the College Music Society National Conference, the World Piano Conference, and the European Teachers Association International Conference.

Lin is in demand as an adjudicator throughout the Midwest, and his students are frequent recipients of scholarships and awards in local and national competitions. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Piano Performance and Literature from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. He has worked with world-renowned pedagogues including David Louie, Leslie Kinton, Marietta Orlov, Nina Tichman, Jean-Louis Haguenauer, and most recently, Arnaldo Cohen.
