| Most commonly referred to as BNC — This type of coaxial cable connector is commonly found on professional video equipment and is easy to connect, using a bayonet lock. The high signal quality needed to carry video signals is possible because these connectors are used in high-frequency test equipment. The basic BNC connector is a male type mounted at each end of a cable. This connector has a center pin connected to the center cable conductor and a metal tube connected to the outer cable shield. A rotating ring outside the tube locks the cable to any female connector. Uses of BNC connectors in digital audio include word clock input and output. Also known as British Nut Connector, or Bayonet Neill Concelman.
