DESIGN RECIPE

Saint-Étienne, France.

Yamaha to Debut at Biennale Internationale Design Saint-Étienne Exhibition in France.

An approach to the mystery

For 125 years, Yamaha Corporation has been producing both traditional acoustic musical instruments and innovative electronic instruments, also both professional and consumer audio equipment. We, Yamaha Design Laboratory, have been involved in the design of almost all the products of Yamaha Corporation in Japan.

We enjoy designing diverse products which contribute to enrich the musical culture and the daily life, understanding the meaning of objects, finding new concepts, working out an original way of thinking or looking for our own identity of designing. This is what we call "design recipe" during the exhibition "Les Labos" of the Biennial of Design. After having a look in past and present products, we have selected several samples reviewing our design processes. Also some design studies introduce how we elaborate our design recipes.

Most often, people feel some emotion before getting the sense of an object. This kind of mysterious attractiveness precedes a rational understanding, even for most of the musical instruments which are reasonably formed to rich a particular sound, performance and also some cultural and historical backgrounds. We don't intend to uncover all about this mystery, but we rather desire to enrich it from reading our design processes and in the development of new recipes.
