Wayne Hoey was born and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts. Wayne starting playing Yamaha saxophones early in his career as an United States Army musician. His assignments included Ft. Devens, Massachusetts; Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey; Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri; Ft. Gordon, Georgia; and three tours to Yongsan and Camp Casey, South Korea. He has performed with many professional artists throughout his career. After retiring, he settled in Augusta, Georgia, actively playing in the ensembles he started, the Sophisticated Swing Big Band and the six-piece group All That Jazz. All That Jazz performed along the East Coast from Florida to Massachusetts, and travelled to Takarazuka, Japan representing Augusta, Georgia in their sister city program.
Wayne is the Director of Bands at Jenkins Middle School in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and graduated from Colorado State University - Pueblo with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in music education. After having played professionally for so many years, he enjoys teaching and mentoring beginning band students.
Wayne plays regularly with the Little London Winds Concert Band, Dwight Shaw Big Band, Swing Factory Big Band, and other Colorado performing groups. In addition, he has released recordings with All That Jazz.
