Dr. Timothy Meyer Altman is Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNCP), where he is the Director of Bands and teaches trumpet and conducting. He has taught instrumental and general music at the elementary, middle school, high school and university levels in Virginia, Wisconsin, Kentucky and North Carolina.
Altman has commissioned new music from Eric Ewazen, James Sochinski, James Hosay, Kyle Newmaster, Joe Sheehan and Kevin McKee. He received a Fulbright (US Scholar) to teach at the University of Malta in 2019 and North Carolina governor, Roy Cooper, appointed him to the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Symphony in 2017. He has had lectureships at Ludwigsburg University (Germany) in 2017 and 2018.
Altman completed his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Trumpet Performance at the University of Kentucky. He has performed at international conferences (Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, International Trumpet Guild, etc.) and led performances of the UNCP Trumpet Ensemble at the ITG conference in 2012, 2014 and 2017. Altman has performed at the Royal College of Music (London) and in Amman, Jordan; Italy; Germany; Mexico City; Puerto Rico; and throughout the United States. His album Baroque Music for Two Trumpets, Strings, and Harpsichord was released in 2014.
Altman is Principal Trumpet for the Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra (NC) and the Carolina Philharmonic. He has performed with The Four Tops, The Temptations, Doc Severinsen, Allen Vizzutti, Vince DiMartino, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas and many more international artists.
Dr. Altman is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
