Originally from Scotland, Stephen Clark is one of very few flute players in the world to have a truly global career. Recital and concerto performances have so far taken him to 128 countries as well as appearances at the major flute festivals of the world including recitals at the conventions of National Flute Association of America, the British Flute Society, the Florida Flute Convention, the Mid-South Flute Festival, the Mid-Atlantic Flute Convention, as well as being Guest Artist at countless flute festivals around the world. Winner of several competitions, he was the recipient of the 2016 James Galway Rising Star Award, as well as 1st prize winner of both the 2018 Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition and the 2018 IMKA Music Competition.
As an orchestral player he has performed as a guest with some of the world’s finest orchestras, as well as stints as principal flute with several orchestras such as Philharmonia Scotland, the National Symphony Orchestra, Glyndebourne Opera, and the Sun Symphony Orchestra in Vietnam. He has recorded two solo albums and has appeared as a chamber musician on several other recordings for Naxos and the BBC. His flute playing can even be heard on several movie soundtracks including Disney's Mulan and Kung Fu Panda 3. As a teacher, Stephen has given masterclasses at a huge list of universities and music conservatories in Europe, Asia, Australia, and the United States. Stephen is author of the best-selling book The Flute Gym - a manual for advanced flute players. He studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Northern College of Music. He is also one of few students of the living legend of the flute Sir James Galway. Stephen is Professor of Flute at Northwestern State University in Louisiana. Stephen is a Yamaha Artist.
