Clarinetist Shawn Goodman matriculated through the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, during which time she placed runner-up in the Sisters-in-Jazz International Collegiate Competition as a jazz studies major. Her first solo album, Not Benny's Goodman, produced in collaboration with jazz pianist Gary Walters, was released in September 2013, receiving outstanding reviews internationally, including the April 2014 issue of L.A. Jazz Scene. Her album was selected for inclusion in Rick Anderson's 2014 CD HotList, and was named one of the top local albums of the year by Nuvo Magazine in 2013. She is also featured on albums by Peter Terry and the City Prophets and the Wave Mechanics Union. Shawn holds a Bachelor of Music Education with a concentration in jazz studies from the University of Indianapolis and a Master of Music in clarinet performance from Butler University, where she also completed a graduate assistantship in conducting.
In 2015, Shawn co-presented her clinic, "Steps to Playin' Changes: A Step-by-Step Method for Teaching Jazz Improvisation", at the Indiana Music Education Association (IMEA) Professional Development Convention, and was the featured clarinet clinician for the Music for All National Festival. Shawn is a University Supervisor for the Butler University College of Education and an Adjunct Instructor of Clarinet at the Butler University School of Music and IUPUI in Indianapolis, Indiana. Shawn co-founded and conducts the Symphonic Youth Orchestra of Greater Indianapolis, is the Indiana All-State Jazz Coordinator, and is proud to be a Yamaha Performing Artist. Shawn Goodman plays Yamaha clarinets exclusively.
