Nashville, Tenn. (December 07, 2015) – Yamaha Entertainment Group of America is proud to announce Bob James and Nathan East’s debut duo album, The New Cool, earned a GRAMMY nomination under the Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella category for the track, "Ghost of a Chance."
"Ghost of a Chance" highlights the duo's true musical talents with James at the piano and East on the bass. The addition of symphonic elements by the Nashville Recording Orchestra enhance the track, which was meticulously arranged by James, a two-time GRAMMY Award-winning jazz keyboardist, arranger and producer. James is recognized as one of the original founders of smooth jazz and boasts some of the most sampled songs in the hip-hop industry.
Released on September 18 on Yamaha Entertainment Group, The New Cool initially debuted at number 2 on Billboard’s Current Contemporary Jazz Chart and jumped to the number 10 spot on JazzWeek's Top 50 Jazz Chart. The album is a celebration of the legendary GRAMMY Award-winning duo’s 25 years of friendship and musical camaraderie. The long-time collaborators recorded The New Cool entirely in Nashville and emerged with a bold collection of original compositions and a few carefully curated classics, including the GRAMMY nominated track, "Ghost of a Chance."
"I am thrilled to see Bob James receive a GRAMMY nomination for his work on The New Cool," said Gero, producer of The New Cool and founder/vice president of Yamaha Entertainment Group. "Not only is he a talented musician, but he is just as brilliant when it comes to his vision for musical arrangements, as seen in his work on 'Ghost of a Chance.'"
"I am honored to receive this recognition," said James. "My thanks go out to my collaborator, Nathan East, and to Chris Gero at Yamaha Entertainment Group for allowing me to be free and adventurous with this arrangement. It's a great feeling to learn that ‘Ghost of a Chance’ was so well received."
