NASHVILLE, TN. (Oct. 11, 2010) Last Thursday, Oct. 7, musician and philanthropist Barry Manilow struck again, making a significant impact on music education! With the help of Yamaha Artist Services - Nashville and locals in the community, The Manilow Music Project team donated more than 600 instruments to the Clark County School District in Las Vegas.
The delivery was launched in the Valley High School stadium, which was packed with more than 700 students, teachers, district administrators, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, and lots of smiles. Barry sent five semi-trucks brimming with instruments to 15 middle schools and high schools. Click here to check out all of the footage and photos from the special event.
This was the second time Manilow and Yamaha worked together to fulfill his dream of revitalizing ailing music programs in schools. Manilow turned to Yamaha to purchase more than 200 musical instruments at a steeply discounted cost, helping make the biggest impact with the funds available. Other instruments were collected at an instrument drive held at a local box office. As a reward to those who brought in new and gently used musical instruments, Manilow distributed vouchers for a performance date of choice.
Launched in 2008, the Manilow Music Project is part of the Manilow Fund for Health and Hope, and its mission is to highlight the importance of music programs in U.S. schools and donate instruments and materials to school music programs.
