Stevie Wonder Performs Poignant Goodbye

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (July 8, 2009) The world was watching Tuesday, July 7 when family, friends, colleagues and fans gathered to remember the King of Pop at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Other performers at Michael Jackson’s memorial included Mariah Carey, Lionel Richie, John Mayer, Jennifer Hudson, Smokey Robinson, Jermaine Jackson and Usher.
Approximately 11,000 people were given tickets to the memorial service in the Staples Center, 6,500 fans were awarded tickets to watch the memorial from the Nokia Theater directly across the street, and police estimate that more than 1,000 people crammed onto the sidewalks outside the arena to pay their respects to the superstar.
Watch parties gathered internationally from New York City, United States to Berlin, Germany to Sydney, Australia and beyond. The memorial was televised live on all major networks and was seen around the globe, with millions also streaming the event live online.
