HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (Feb. 21, 2007) Yamaha Drummer Chris Vrenna of Gnarls Barkley gave the new Tour Custom Drum Set its national television debut at the 49th Annual GRAMMY® Awards held on Feb. 11 in Los Angeles. Fellow Yamaha Drummers
Teddy Campbell and Chris Johnson also performed during some of the night's biggest numbers. An estimated 20.1 million viewers tuned in to this year's broadcast.
"We are very proud that so many Yamaha drummers and drums were showcased at this year's GRAMMYs. What better way to debut Yamaha's new Tour Custom than with Chris and Gnarls Barkley on national television. Congratulations to all of our nominees and performers this year," comments Joe Testa, international artist relations manager for
Yamaha Drums.
Vrenna performed the Gnarls Barkley hit "Crazy" in a rousing performance, complete with orchestra and choir. The new Tour Custom kit he played has an all-Maple shell with 60-degree bearing edges that gives the drums a truly unique sound. Vrenna chose the model in Sakura White. Other lacquer-finish color options on the Tour Custom include Black Onyx, Brown Sunburst, and Ocean Blue.
Yamaha Drummer Teddy Campbell is no stranger to gigging with some of the music industry's biggest stars. On GRAMMY night he backed the legendary Smokey Robinson on the classic "Tears of a Clown," Lionel Richie on his '80s hit "Hello," R&B sensation Chris Brown on "Run It," and the powerful vocals of Christina Aguilera on her rendition of "It's a Man's World."
Yamaha Drummer Chris Johnson accompanied GRAMMY Award-winning and Yamaha artist
John Legend on his powerful ballad "Coming Home." He also played with Corinne Bailey Rae on "Like a Star" and John Mayer on "Gravity."
