NASHVILLE, Tenn. (September 19, 2006) Legendary Yamaha artist
Sir Elton John was the headlining performer and show curator for the third annual
Fashion Rocks, which kicked off New York's Spring Fashion Week at Radio City Music Hall. The event aired nationally on CBS Sept. 8. A
Yamaha CFIIIS, a 9' Concert Collection Grand Piano, and an
MPC6, a 6'11" Grand MIDIPiano, was used in the star-studded event.
Dubbed a collision of style and sound, the concert celebrated the relationship between fashion and music, and there's no better choice to illustrate this link than the iconic Elton. Since he is known not only for his legendary musical genius but also his inimitable sense of style, Elton also served as the night's curator. Proceeds from the show benefited the
Elton John AIDS Foundation.
"Elton is the ultimate example of how music and fashion often go hand in hand. His fashions over the years have played an integral role in his career and stage persona. Yamaha is proud to be a part of
Fashion Rocks and to support the ever-stylish Elton," comments Chris Gero, corporate director of Yamaha Corporate Artist Affairs.
Sir Elton John and Christina Aguilera open the third annual Fashion Rocks with a duet of "Benny and the Jets," while Elton plays a Yamaha CFIIIS. |
Elton was joined on stage by some of the music industry's biggest names, including duets with Christina Aguilera, The Black Eyed Peas, The Pussycat Dolls, Rihanna, and the Scissor Sisters. Also performing were superstars Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Bon Jovi, Jamie Foxx, and Nelly Furtado and Timbaland. The show was also interwoven with fashion segments featuring today's hottest designers and models.
A Yamaha artist for well over a decade, Elton's instruments of choice are
Yamaha Concert Grand Pianos. He is currently on tour to support his latest album
The Captain and the Kid, which was released on Sept. 19. It is a follow up to his classic 1975 album,
Captain Fantastic and the Dirt Brown Cowboy.
