NASHVILLE, TN (March 14, 2005) Spellbinding, formidable and soulful are just a few of the adjectives used to describe the musical genius of
Hyim. Whether he is pounding out new urban world beats or playing rock-your-body funk with his band Hyim and the Fat Foakland Orchestra, he keeps the dance floor packed and the audiences cheering.
Hyim's debut album, "Let Out a Little Peace," already garnered honors and praise from listeners and critics alike. This year, the legendary musical mixer of reggae, calypso, jazz, blues, classical and hip-hop releases another album with his band, Hyim and the Fat Foakland Orchestra. The album features Hyim as well as drummer, Michael Faiella (Wyclef Jean), bassist Mark Calderon (Leo Nocentelli of The Meters) and percussionist, Ajayi Jackson (Omar Sosa). The band is already a hit since it last received a nomination at the 2004 California Music Awards.
Hyim's eclectic and innovative sound comes from his love of Yamaha instruments. "I have a
Motif 6 and a Motif 8, Grandma and the little baby." said Hyim. "Coming from a hip-hop background, I need to be able to make my beats on my keyboard and perform them live. The sequencer is awesome and user friendly, while the sounds are incomparable.
Hyim and The Fat Foakland Orchestra will tour this summer and next year. Hyim also plans to tour solo. During his performances, Hyim also uses Yamaha Motifs for sounds, beats and preprogrammed sonic support. However, Hyim's talents encompass several other instruments like the keys, bass, accordion, guitar, mandolin and an assortment of drums and percussion instruments.
Hyim is also a successful producer, singer, songwriter, pianist and poet. He has produced three albums, including his own solo debut. His earliest influences are a melting pot of legendary musicians including, Chopin, TuPac, Stevie Wonder, Andre 3000 and Willie Nelson.
Joel Selvin of the San Francisco Chronicle said this of Hyim: "Hyim is a formidable talent…a hippie child who grew up hip-hop, the music smoothly assimilates such disparate sources as Jamaican reggae, Cuban son, brilliant balladry, Mediterranean beats and urban DJ techniques. Spellbinding."
The new album, "Hyim and The Fat Foakland Orchestra," releases in April and is guaranteed to bring 100% sweet energy dance music to avid listeners everywhere. The album is sure to showcase Hyim's talent for creating a unique artistry and gifted ability to form beautiful, moving ballads and hard funk jams that please the crowd. However, no matter how loud the funk, Hyim's music also carries important messages about the human mind and passion.
"His ability to speak to the human experience is powerful. His music is full of passion and depth and makes us all feel our own joy, humor, love and sadness. In the process, he refreshingly reminds us what music is about he moves us and connects us with each other! He is a luminous talent who I want to grow with in this album and whatever is next." Elan Masliyah, Rainmaker Media.
Up next, the new album "Hyim and the Fat Foakland Orchestra." Hyim continues to write and produce for his solo career while pioneering his own genre of music. For more information about Hyim or his band, Hyim and the Fat Foakland Orchestra, please visit
