Dr. Michael Averett is the Associate Professor of Trumpet at Samford University in Birmingham, AL. Dr. Averett has performed throughout the United States as a guest recitalist and lecturer with high school and university wind ensembles, orchestras, and marching bands. Dr. Averett has also performed extensively internationally in England, Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Mexico, China, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
As an orchestral trumpeter, Dr. Averett has performed with city, regional, and international orchestras including The IHS World Orchestra, the Wichita Grand Opera, the Orquestra Sinfonica of Monterrey, Mexico the Topeka Symphony, the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, the Marion Philharmonic, the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, the Western-Piedmont Symphony Orchestra, and the Fort Wayne Bach Collegium.
Dr. Averett is a former member of the nationally acclaimed Fountain City Brass Band and has also performed with the Free State Brass Band, the Derby City Brass Band, The Old Crowne Brass Band, and America's Hometown Band.
Dr. Averett is also a founding member of the MIENT DUO. The MIENT DUO released their first album, Avalon in the fall of 2019, and released their second album, souls like birds, on Centaur Records in the fall of 2022. The MIENT DUO has been featured by multiple community concert organizations, OnStage Live, and Kansas Public Radio.
