Lee Hinkle, D.M.A. is a percussionist and baritone vocalist whose percussion playing has been called “rock-steady” by the Washington Post. Dr. Hinkle is the principal percussionist with the 21st Century Consort, a position he has held since 2012. He made his Carnegie Hall solo debut in March 2014 with the world premiere performance of Baljinder Sekhon’s Double Percussion Concerto for two percussion soloists and wind ensemble.
Dr. Hinkle’s notable performances have included the National Symphony Orchestra and the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as tours with Bebe Neuwirth, Bernadette Peters, and the American Wind Symphony Orchestra. With several CDs to his credit, Dr. Hinkle’s recordings can be heard on six different labels including Capstone Records, New World Records, Albany Records, and C. F. Peter’s Corporation.
An active percussion recitalist and soloist, Dr. Hinkle has performed at universities and festivals across the U.S., several state PAS Days of Percussion, as well as two Percussive Arts Society International Conventions. He is in demand as a soloist and clinician both locally and internationally.
Dr. Hinkle currently serves on the faculty at the University of Maryland in College Park, MD where he teaches, performs, and directs the UM Percussion Ensemble. He also serves on the Percussive Arts Society Percussion Ensemble Committee and is the President of the Maryland/Delaware Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society.
