Lasim Richards was born in St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, where he began his musical training on the piano at the age of 6. He later switched to the trombone at the age of 8. In 1998, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts to attend Berklee College of Music. While attending Berklee, Lasim earned the opportunity to play in many of the top ensembles and worked as a freelance trombonist around the New England area. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in music business management. Upon graduation, Lasim moved to Miami where he enrolled at Florida International University where he completed his Masters of Jazz Studies degree.
As a professional musician, Lasim has had the opportunity to work with a diverse group of musical talents ranging from Latin, rock, pop, kompa, gospel, cumbia, reggae, jazz, calypso, rhythm and blues, rap, and funk. As a working musician of today, Lasim believes that versatility is an important tool for musical growth and sustaining a career as an instrumentalist. Throughout his career, Lasim has recorded and/or performed with the following individuals and groups: Usher, Ludacris, Dave Matthews Band, Bob Mintzer, Flo Rida, Chris Cornell, Ron Blake, Randy Brecker, Puff Daddy, Kelly Clarkson, Gary Clark, Jr., Young Jeezy, CeeLo, Locos Por Juana, Grace Potter, Blake Shelton, Meek Mill, Faith Evans, Soulive, Warren Haynes, Rick Ross, Reuben Rogers, John Beasley, Timbaland, Nicki Minaj, and other notable individuals.
