Kimberly Bryden Loch joined the Toledo Symphony as Principal Oboist in 1985. She is an active teacher and is on the faculty of The University of Toledo.
Since 2002, Ms. Loch has stepped in to play principal oboe with the Baltimore and Richmond Symphony Orchestras, and most recently filled in on principal oboe with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra throughout their 2014-2015 season. She also had the opportunity to perform in the section and tour with The Cleveland Orchestra.
Ms. Loch began playing the piano at age 6 and the oboe at age 9. She attended the Interlochen Arts Academy her final two years of high school. Upon graduation, she was the recipient of Interlochen's highest award, the Fine Arts Award. Her studies continued at the Cleveland Institute of Music with John Mack, Principal Oboist of The Cleveland Orchestra. From there, she received a Bachelor and Master of Music degree.
As a young artist competition winner at age 17, Ms. Loch performed as a soloist with the New York Philharmonic under the direction of Zubin Mehta. Seven years later, she was a prize winner in the Lucarelli International Oboe Competition at Carnegie Hall.
Ms. Loch has performed on over twenty Windham Hill and other recordings with Toledo composer Tim Story, including several of Windham Hill’s Christmas CDs. During the summers, she has enjoyed performing in music festivals including the festivals in Puebla, Mexico; the Grand Tetons in Wyoming, Anchorage, Alaska; Aspen, Colorado; Evergreen, Colorado; Sarasota, Florida; Santa Barbara, California; Iron Mountain, Michigan; and Brevard, North Carolina.
