Justin Bartels holds the position of Principal Trumpet with the Colorado Symphony in Denver and serves on faculty at the University of Colorado. In addition to his duties with the Colorado Symphony, he also serves as a visiting Guest Artist in Orchestral Studies at the University of Denver.
Bartels is a 2003 graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with Marie Speziale, John Rommel and Ed Cord. Prior to his studies at Indiana University, he spent time at both the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (1997-2000), where he studied with Marie Speziale and Alan Siebert, and The University of Alabama (1996-1997), where he was a student of Mike Johnson.
Bartels has previously held the position of Principal Trumpet with the Columbus Symphony (2007-2008) and the Augusta Symphony (2006-2007), and he was a fellow with the New World Symphony in Miami, FL (2003-2006). He has performed with the Alabama Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Houston Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Milwaukee Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Saint Louis Symphony, San Francisco Symphony and Virginia Symphony.
Bartels' solo performances include the John Williams "Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra" with the Colorado Symphony in October 2017 as well as a featured solo performance of the Arutunian "Trumpet Concerto" at the International Trumpet Guild Convention in Anaheim, CA in June 2016.
