Joseph Cooper is the trumpet professor at Oklahoma State University. He is a member of the Mirari brass quintet and co-founder of the trumpet/saxophone duo Composite Brass. As a versatile musician, Cooper has been highly active for twenty years. In Oklahoma, he is a substitute musician with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Tulsa Symphony, and the Tulsa Ballet. Previously, he has performed across Texas appearing with the Austin Symphony, Austin Opera, the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio, and the Houston Grand Opera as well as in popular genres, too, at the Austin City Limits music festival.
Beyond performance, Cooper's dedication to education is profound. He is a revered teacher and sought-after clinician, with a legacy of nurturing talent evident in the success of his former students. Many of his students have carved successful paths in music, serving as professional performers and educators across the United States. For over a decade he worked extensively with pre-college students who achieved top positions in the Oklahoma and Texas All-State bands, orchestras, and jazz bands, as well as in the National Youth Orchestra and NYO2.
Actively engaged in the trumpet community, he serves the International Trumpet Guild and is an adjudicator at the National Trumpet Competition. Cooper is a Yamaha Artist and proudly endorses Yamaha trumpets.
