Jim Johnson's Biography

Dr. Jim Johnson currently serves as Assistant Professor of Trumpet at The University of Akron. He earned his DM in Trumpet Performance from The Florida State University, his MM in Trumpet Performance from Kansas State University, and his BS in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Before coming to The University of Akron, Dr. Johnson was the Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Kansas State University, where he performed with the Kansas State University Faculty Brass Quintet and served as the Principal Trumpet of the Salina Symphony Orchestra in Salina, Kansas.

He currently performs with Conspiratus Brass, a brass duo that promotes new music by North American composers. Their first self-titled CD released in 2020 consisting of music commissioned specifically for this ensemble. Dr. Johnson is also an accomplished arranger, having had his music performed at the National Trumpet Competition, the William Adam International Trumpet Festival, the Kansas Music Educators Association All-State Conference, and at the Haus Marteau Brass Chamber Workshop in Lichtenberg, Germany.
