Jay Coble is Professor of Trumpet at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL. He earned a doctorate (DMA) from the University of Southern California, a master's degree from Indiana University, and an undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University. His teachers have been William Adam, Joe Phelps, Roy Poper, and Boyde Hood.
Prior to coming to USF, he was a freelance trumpet artist in the Los Angeles area recording for television shows, movies, commercials and CDs. He has previously toured North America with the Buddy Rich Band, and worldwide with singer Tom Jones.
Jay is active in the Tampa Bay area, performing as Principal Trumpet for Opera Tampa since 2004, and performing as lead trumpet on touring Broadway productions at the Straz Center for the Performing Arts. He also performs regularly with the Florida Orchestra and the Sarasota Orchestra.
Jay was Principal Trumpet with the Classical Music Festival Orchestra at the Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt, Austria from 2008-2011. In 2011, he performed the Haydn Trumpet Concerto with the Festival Orchestra in the Haydnsaal of the Esterhazy Palace. He has also been a member of The Ambassador Brass Quintet since 2008. In 2010 and 2011, The Ambassador Brass toured China, performing and presenting master classes.
Jay is a Yamaha performing artist.
