Jay Chen obtained his bachelor's degree from the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in China and his master¹s degree from Oregon State University. In addition to his position as Professor of Trumpet at Oregon State University, he also directs the Oregon State University Brass Ensemble and Trumpet Choir which toured China in 2009 and 2013.
Chen is very active as a trumpet player throughout the northwest and is the Principal Trumpet for the Portland Opera orchestra.
He has performed with the Oregon Symphony; the Eugene Symphony; the New Music Festival in Chengdu, China; the Oregon Bach Festival in Eugene, Oregon; the Oregon Coast Festival in Coos Bay, Oregon; the Sunriver Music Festival of Oregon; and the Cascade Music Festival in Bend, Oregon.
He has been a brass faculty member at the Marrowstone Music Festival in Washington and the trumpet faculty for the Young Musicians and Artists (YMA) summer camp in Salem, Oregon. He also is a visiting professor at the Sichuan Conservatory of Music in Chengdu, China.
Chen is in high demand as a soloist, clinician and adjudicator in China and around the northwest.
Chen is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
