James B. Harrison is an adjunct faculty member teaching drum set at Boise State University, and is also the Drum Line Instructor for the Boise State University Blue Thunder Marching Band.
James’s diversity as a performer is well documented through his performances with such artists as Steve Miller, Arturo Sandoval, Bo Diddley, Peter Noone, Bruce Willis, Phyllis Diller, Gary Burton, Conte Candoli, Buddy DeFranco, Ernie Watts, Jon Faddis, Bill Watrous, Lew Soloff, Don Menza, Carl Fontana, Red Rodney, Eric Marienthal, Chris Vadala, Richie Cole, Alex Harvey, Randy Brecker, Steve Lippia, The Jimmy Dorsey Band, The Boise Philharmonic and the Rocci Johnson Band.
He cites drum duets (battles) with the late great Louie Bellson and living legend Billy Cobham as two of the high points in his life of drumming.
He has recorded on several albums, radio jingles, and various tracks for artists and television commercials.
He has given workshops, clinics and camps in many mid-south and northwestern states, and performed at many day of percussion events, jazz festivals and state music conventions.
Along with his busy performance schedule, James also keeps a very active private teaching schedule.
He is a former President of the Idaho Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society.
