Dr. Frank Kumor is Professor of Music at Kutztown University where he is the Director of Percussion and Chair of the Department of Music. His book, co-authored with Chalo Eduardo, Drum Circle: A Guide to World Percussion, is published by Alfred Publishing. Dr. Kumor presents solo recitals and workshops as well as concerts with the Kutztown University Percussion Ensemble worldwide. As a soloist, he has performed at the Patagonia International Percussion Festival in Rio Negro, Argentina and at the Polish International Percussion Festival in Wroclaw and Opole, Poland. He has also served as Artist-In-Residence at Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile; University of Montevideo in Uruguay; University of Campinas in Brazil; Kenyatta University in Kenya; as well as Conservatorio Profesional Municipale in Riba-rojja, Spain; and has served as Visiting Professor for the Argentine Ministry of Education and the 5th International Percussion Festival in Cordoba, Argentina. Nationally, he has presented workshops at music educator association meetings throughout the US. Dr. Kumor and the Kutztown University Percussion Ensemble have received international attention as they have been invited to perform at the Puerto Rico Percussion Festival; Paris International Percussion Festival; College Music Society International Conference in Bangkok, Thailand; American University in Athens, Greece as Artists-In-Residence; International Percussion Ensemble Week in Bjelovar, Croatia; Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile; and the University of South Australia in Adelaide, Australia. In March 2016 and May 2017, the Kutztown University Percussion Ensemble and its Center for Mallet Percussion Research was featured on the cover of Percussive Notes, the official journal of the Percussive Arts Society and in 2018 was the subject of a segment on CBS Sunday Morning.
Dr. Kumor has been a Yamaha Artist since 1998.
