Described by one reviewer as a "canny and imaginative player whose solos display an extraordinary sense of architecture and conception", award-winning trombonist David Marriott, Jr. is a musician for the next generation, equally at home as a performer, composer, arranger, and educator.
A two-time Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Award recipient and winner of the 1999 National Jazz Trombone Competition, David is an in-demand soloist in a variety of Seattle jazz groups, including the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, Emerald City Jazz Orchestra, Washington Composers Orchestra, Zubatto Syndicate, Tom Varner’s Nonet, and his own critically-acclaimed groups Septology, Pop Culture, and all-star ensemble Triskaidekaband. David has performed and recorded with a wide variety of music heavyweights, from jazz artists like David Liebman, Wycliffe Gordon, Conrad Herwig, Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts, Kenny Kirkland, and Branford Marsalis to entertainment legends like Deltron 3030, Frankie Valli, The O’Jays, Bobby Caldwell, Manhattan Transfer, Don Rickles, and Joan Rivers.
As a composer and arranger, David keeps busy writing for his own ensembles, as well as many clients both locally and nationally. He writes for local high school and junior high jazz bands, as well as clients like trombonist Delfeayo Marsalis and vocalists Paul Green, Troy Kline and Greta Matassa. In addition to being a busy clinician, adjudicator and private instructor for over twenty years, David has served as director of the jazz bands at both the University of Washington and Edmonds Community College, and teaches at many summer workshops each year including the University of Washington Jazz Workshop, Drayton Harbor Music Festival, and Shoreline Jazz Camp.
David is also an active recording artist, with four jazz recordings as a leader, and appearances on over fifty albums to date in styles ranging from jazz to hip-hop, blues to Broadway, and salsa to soukous.
