David Gabrielson serves as Assistant Director of Bands and Percussion at Clovis North Educational Center in Fresno, CA. He is also a member of the adjunct faculty at California State University, Fresno, a position he has held since 2001, and he is a past faculty member of California State University, Stanislaus. Past students of Gabrielson's private/college studio have enjoyed tremendous success, earned numerous honors and have gone on to become teachers and professional musicians. He holds a Master of Arts in Music Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Fresno State University.
The music program at Clovis North has seen tremendous success with the wind ensemble, percussion ensemble, indoor percussion and marching band. Notable honors include performing at the 2017 Midwest Clinic, being a featured band at the 2016 Music For All National Festival, performing at the 2016 Sandy Feldstein National Percussion Festival, performing at the 2017 California All-State Music Education Conference (CASMEC), serving as the lab band for Robert Sheldon at the 2014 CASMEC, serving as the lab percussion ensemble at the 2015 CASMEC, serving as the lab band for Travis J. Cross at the 2017 Midwest Clinic, multiple San Joaquin Valley Color Guard & Percussion Review (SJVCGPR) championships, several Western Band Association Championship High Percussion awards and being named Western Band Association Class or Grand Champions multiple times. Advocates for new music, the music team at Clovis North has commissioned many composers for band and percussion ensemble compositions.
Gabrielson presented his clinic titled If You Build It They Will Come - Using Percussion Ensemble to Build Well Rounded Percussionists: Why and How? at the California All-State Music Education Conference in February 2015.
A very active freelance musician, Gabrielson is a member of the Sacramento Choral Society Orchestra, Music in the Mountains Summer Orchestra and Bear Valley Music Festival Orchestra. He keeps an active performing and adjudicating schedule as he regularly performs with the Fresno Philharmonic, Modesto Symphony Orchestra, Sacramento Philharmonic and Sacramento Opera, among others. Gabrielson is the Principal Percussionist of the Wind Symphony of Clovis. He also has performed with the former Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra (Principal Percussionist), Townsend Opera Players (Principal Percussionist), Sacramento Chamber Orchestra, Branford Marsalis, Rita Moreno, Doc Severinsen, Magical Mystery Tour, Cirque de la Symphonie, Edgar Meyer, Zakir Hussain, Bela Fleck, Morgan James and Plácido Domingo, among others.
Gabrielson serves as Vice President of the California Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society (PAS). He is a founding committee member of the PAS-California Solo/Ensemble Competition and cohosts the Central California Day of Percussion. He is also the cofounder of the San Joaquin Valley Concert Band Invitational affiliated with Music for All. Gabrielson is proud to be a Vic Firth Artist, Remo Artist and Yamaha Performing Artist.
