Dale Wolford has been hailed by critics nationwide for his "great sound and phrasing...the melodic lines soulfully tear at your heartstrings" (Saxophone Journal). He has also been described as "fresh and expressive, with genuine impulses of feeling" (San Francisco Chronicle).
Dale is a member of the Premiere Saxophone Quartet, dedicated to promoting new music for the saxophone quartet via performance and recordings. He also has performed and/or recorded with Philip Glass, Bernadette Peters, Santa Cruz New Music Works, the Morosco Saxophone Quartet, the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, the Nuclear Whales Saxophone Orchestra and the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players. He is a frequent guest soloist with San Francisco Bay area orchestras and bands. Dale regularly performs with the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Sun Valley Symphony and as a soloist with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra in San Francisco and on previous tours to Copenhagen, New York and Chicago.
Working with pianist Ivan Rosenblum for over 30 years as the Wolford/Rosenblum Duo, Dale has premiered many new works, including "Sonata for Saxophone and Piano" by Gunther Schuller. The duo has released multiple recordings.
Dale serves on the faculty at the University of California, Berkeley and has also taught at San José State University; University of the Pacific; California State University, East Bay; California State University, Stanislaus; and Chabot College. In addition, he has been a board member for both the California Music Educators Association Bay Section and the Music Teachers' Association of California. Dale is a Yamaha Performing Artist. His teachers include William Trimble, Sigurd Rascher and Victor Morosco.
