Colin Young is a concert saxophonist and educator living near Des Moines, Iowa. An active solo and chamber musician, Colin performs regularly throughout the country. Locally, he performs with the Des Moines Symphony, the Des Moines Big Band and the Turner Center Jazz Orchestra and plays regularly with the Minnesota Orchestra. While a member of the saxophone quartet Axius, he won prizes at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, the Music Teachers National Association Chamber Music Competition and the North American Saxophone Alliance Saxophone Quartet Competition.
Colin serves on the faculty of Drake University, where he teaches individual lessons, chamber music, Jazz History, Jazz Methods for future music educators and directs Drake Jazz II. He also teaches individual lessons at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa and at Grand View University in Des Moines. Before beginning his graduate work, Colin taught for three years in the Iowa public school system as a 5-12 grade instrumental music teacher. He is still active in public school music programs around Central Iowa as a lesson teacher and clinician.
