Chris Phillips started playing the drums at the age of 10 in school and through church. He was self-taught for years, having bands throughout high school and college. Finally, during college, Chris received one-on-one instruction that focused on tempo control, accuracy, volume, power, and rudiments. Phillips truly believes it really pays to have someone challenging and pushing him. Chris has always focused on these foundations and learned to portray them in the songs he writes, teaches, and performs.
Phillips remembers buying his first Yamaha Kit at the drum shop he worked at, a York Honey Amber Oak Custom; he still has it and cherish its classic tone and aggressive punch. That kit helped create the sound for his current band IAMDYNAMITE. IAMDYNAMITE has toured across the US and Europe for years, headlining and opening for a number of artists. IAMDYNAMITE's song "Where Will We Go" from the album "SUPERMEGAFANTASTIC" spent 22+ weeks on the Alternative Top 40 radio chart, followed by another single "Hey Girl", charting as well. Chris is always writing, recording and looking forward to sitting behind his Kit. "It’s a Yamaha...It’s going to sound good!"
“With over 100 years of musical history, Yamaha is one of the leaders of innovation in all of its different endeavors. This history shows the care Yamaha has offered us in their drum manufacturing since 1967. I am honored and proud to be a part of the Yamaha Family, and I will always be the first guy to stand up and praise the quality and the sound of all Yamaha drums.”
