Bret Zvacek has performed with Kenny Wheeler, Gene Bertoncini, The Woody Herman Orchestra, and numerous other jazz artists. He honed his writing and playing skills as a member of the University of Iowa's Johnson County Landmark, and the University of North Texas' One O'clock Lab Band.
Since September 2005, Bret has served as the Musical Director of the Central New York Jazz Orchestra in Syracuse, New York, collaborating with artists including Phil Woods, Hubert Laws, and others. His 2001 quintet album DAY IN MAY has been described as being "infused with creative energy" (Cadence Magazine, December 2002).
As an orchestral trombonist, Bret performs with the Orchestra of Northern New York. He has written big band music for numerous professional and student ensembles, including a multi-movement commission for saxophonist David Liebman. Bret has also written and arranged studio sessions for singer/songwriters, and has written for symphony orchestra. He has held teaching positions at the University of North Texas, McGill University, and at The Crane School of Music in Potsdam, New York, where he is Professor of Music and Director of Jazz Studies.
