Most commonly referred to as BNC this type of coaxial cable connector is commonly found on professional video equipment and is easy to connect, using a bayonet lock. The high signal quality needed to carry video signals is possible because these connectors are used in high-frequency test equipment. The basic BNC connector is a male type mounted at each end of a cable. This connector has a center pin connected to the center cable conductor and a metal tube connected to the outer cable shield. A rotating ring outside the tube locks the cable to any female connector. Uses of BNC connectors in digital audio include word clock input and output.
